PSTC seeks students pursuing further education in pressure sensitive adhesive tape and related fields

(CHICAGO – August 5, 2021) – The Pressure Sensitive Tape Council (PSTC), the leading North American trade association for pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) tape manufacturers and affiliate suppliers, announced today the launch of its John “JJ” Johnston Memorial Scholarship. The new scholarship program is aimed at undergraduate students passionate about PSA tape and related fields.

The scholarship – established in memory of the late PSA tape author and influencer John “JJ” Johnston — is open to students of chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, materials sciences or physics, who have an expected date of graduation not more than 12 months after date of application.

PSTC will provide one recipient with an award valued at $2,500, including: free registration for PSTC’s upcoming inaugural Tape Week 2022, happening May 2-5, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida; a two-night complimentary stay at the Tape Week 2022 host hotel; and $500 in cash to use towards travel expenses associated with attending Tape Week 2022.

“As PSTC works to increase the global usage of PSA tape products, it also strives to deliver expert educational offerings to organization members and non-members, in the aims of increasing technical and practical knowledge of tape in general and in various vertical applications,” said Joe Tocci, PSTC President. “On behalf of the PSTC Board of Directors and our entire organization, we are pleased to honor the late John ‘JJ’ Johnston by establishing a scholarship in his name.”

“JJ was committed to education and lifelong learning. Even in retirement, he continued to mentor and teach,” said JJ’s son, Ian Johnston. “I am grateful to PSTC for keeping my father’s legacy and love for teaching alive through this new scholarship program.”

To apply, students must submit a short text entry via email to info@pstc.org, articulating why they are deserving of the scholarship. Applicants can also supplement their entry with a video (MP4 or MOV file, two-minute maximum length, portrait or landscape orientation) to expand on and further articulate their text entry.

Applications open on August 9, 2021, and are due October 25, 2021. The recipient will be announced the first week of November 2021.
