Keynote: Staying Ahead of the Curve in 2025–2026 | Taylor St. Germain
2024 has included a tapestry of conflicting economic trends, with some industries enjoying ongoing growth and others in overt recession. Manufacturing and much of the industrial portion of the economy experienced a mild recession, but that decline will soon give way to rise and additional opportunities in 2025 and 2026 for well-prepared businesses. The services sector of the economy slowed in its rate of rise in 2024 and is expected to increase its rate of rise in 2025 and into 2026. Join us for our outlook for key industries over the next two years. We will discuss consumer spending, inflation, interest rates, the labor market, and key leading indicators. Our examination will extend to global markets and their impact on the domestic landscape. This presentation will provide information on necessary tactics and strategies that will prepare you for an upswing in the business cycle post 2024. Knowledge gained from the presentation, in conjunction with ITR Economics’ time-tested analytical tools, will provide you the means to maximize profit in the years ahead.
Taylor will also address emerging vertical markets such as semi-conductors, modular building and EV batteries to help our members identify new opportunities.

2024 Update on Hydrocarbon Based Tackifiers
Steve Williams, Argus Media
This presentation will provide an annual update on global hydrocarbon based tackifier capacity and production trends and highlight upcoming capacity projects around the globe. New Capacity continues to come online in Asia-Pacific in a market already oversaturated with capacity. Both Europe and the US have seen a number of plant shutdowns which further concentrates tackifier production in the Asia-Pacific region. This has implications for both sourcing decisions and trade flows, both of which will be discussed. A comparison of production capacity for the largest HCR producers and how dramatically this has changed since late in the last decade will also be included.

Thomas Salmon
Tom Salmon is the retired Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Berry Global (NYSE: BERY), a Fortune 250 company and leading global manufacturer of rigid, flexible, and nonwoven packaging, protection and adhesive products with 200+ locations and ~40,000 associates worldwide and sales of nearly $13 billion.
Salmon joined Berry Global in 2007. During his 16 years at Berry Global, he served in a number of leadership roles, including President and Chief Operating Officer, as well as President of its Consumer Packaging, Rigid Closed Top, and Engineered Materials divisions. Under Salmon’s leadership, Berry Global became a founding member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, and in 2021, he was appointed as an officer for the organization. In 2022, Salmon joined the American Chemistry Council’s Plastics Division Operating Committee leadership team as the Value Chain Committee Chair. Under his leadership, and through a number of initiatives and key customer collaborations, Salmon elevated Berry Global as a sustainability leader with its size, scale and influence across the value chain in creating a more circular, low-carbon economy. Before joining Berry Global, Salmon began his manufacturing career in sales with Honeywell International, successfully progressing through regional, national, and global sales management roles, and ultimately becoming General Manager. After leaving Honeywell, Salmon served as president of TYCO International Ltd Adhesives and later president of Covalence Specialty Adhesives LLC. Since 2018, Salmon has served on the Board of Directors of Old National Bank. He also serves in various community roles.
Mr. Salmon is an industry leader with extensive experience in consumer packaging, including global commercial, operations and supply chain management. His leadership experience also extends to corporate strategy, capital markets, sustainability, executive compensation, transformation and mergers and acquisitions. He has over five years’ experience serving as a public company director.

Taylor St. Germain, ITR Economics
As an experienced economist, Taylor St. Germain provides consulting services for small businesses, trade associations, and Fortune 500 companies across a spectrum of industries. Taylor specializes in forecasting at both the market and company levels and is a key contributor to maintaining ITR Economics’ forecast accuracy rating of 94.7%.
His dynamic personality and extensive knowledge of economic trends and their business relevance are highly valued by clients and colleagues alike.
Taylor spent time in the tech industry providing market intelligence to electronics OEMs, semiconductor companies, and component manufacturers. In his five years with ITR Economics, he has worked with various distributors, manufacturers, and producers, helping each client navigate the business cycle and optimize their corporate planning strategy. Taylor has also spent several years in Texas furthering his research in the industrial sector, with a specific focus on oil and gas.
Taylor earned his bachelor’s degree in statistics from the University of Vermont and is finishing a master’s degree in applied economics at Southern New Hampshire University. He has been featured in OEM Magazine and on the Fab Lab and Wealth Formula podcasts.
Gene Marks, The Marks Group
Gene Marks writes weekly on public policy, the economy, workplace and technology for The Guardian, The Hill, Forbes, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Chicago Daily Herald and Entrepreneur Magazine. He also appears frequently on Fox News, Fox Business, MSNBC and CNBC and nationally on Sirius/XM’s Wharton Channel and CBS Radio’s John Batchelor Show. Gene is the host of two popular business podcasts for The Hartford and Paychex Corporation.
A certified public accountant and the author of six books, Gene is the President of a ten-person financial and technology consulting firm near Philadelphia.

Steve Williams, Argus Media
Mr. Williams has been with Argus since 2020 and has more than 38 years of experience in the petrochemical industry. He spent 28 years with The Dow Chemical Company (now Dow Inc.), a global petrochemical company, as well as seven years with Chemium International, a Houston-based petrochemical trading firm. Mr. Williams served in numerous roles at Dow, including sourcing feedstocks for ethylene production, managing NGL joint venture interests and managing the Americas aromatics and derivatives businesses. As a part of his aromatics business responsibilities, he was exposed to many C5 monomer suppliers and developed an extensive knowledge of feedstock, olefin and downstream operations. Mr. Williams is an expert in pygas-related co-products, including C5 monomers, DCPD and related aromatic processing co-products serving as feed for hydrocarbon resin production. His responsibilities at Argus include the publication of the monthly Argus C5 and Hydrocarbon Resins report as well as the Argus Hydrocarbon Resins Analytics annual report.
William F. Rooney, Kuehne + Nagel Inc.
William F. Rooney has 51 years of experience in transportation management covering a broad range business functions. He is currently Vice President, Strategic Development for Kuehne + Nagel Inc. and has been with Kuehne + Nagel for 12 years. Prior to Kuehne + Nagel Mr. Rooney’s positions have included President of Hanjin Shipping America; Senior Vice President, Service Delivery for CMA-CGM; and Vice President, Ocean Services for GT Nexus, a logistics software provider. He also held a number of senior management positions with Sea-Land Service over a span of 25 years including 5 years in Europe. Mr. Rooney started his career doing economic research for the US Department of Transportation. Mr. Rooney’s board memberships have included: the Pacific Maritime Association, the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association, The US Maritime Alliance, Consolidated Chassis Management, OCEMA, and the Maritime Association of the Port of New York and New Jersey. Mr. Rooney received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Marist College in New York and a master’s degree in economics from Northeastern University in Boston.
