Webinar 1: The Economic Recovery Continues in 2021”

Keynote Speaker: Robert D. Dietz, PhD, chief economist and senior vice president for economics and housing policy, National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)

Dr. Dietz will provide an overview of economic and housing market conditions as the economy recovers from the virus crisis. Housing was a bright spot during a challenging 2020. Will the recovery continue in 2021? Dietz will review macroeconomic factors affecting housing and consumer demand, industry-level detail on supply-side headwinds that are limiting construction sector growth, and detail NAHB’s economic forecast including future actions of the Federal Reserve. He will also explore the geography of recovery and the impacts of the 2020 elections on the economy, including the risk of rising regulatory burdens on business.

Speaker Bio:

Dr. Dietz is chief economist at NAHB, where his responsibilities include forecasts of housing and economic trends, survey research and home building industry and policy analysis. He has published academic research on the private and social benefits of homeownership, federal tax expenditure estimation, and other housing and tax issues. He has testified before the House Ways and Means Committee, the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy on housing, economic and tax issues. Prior to joining NAHB in 2005, Dr. Dietz worked as an economist for the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation. He is a native of Dayton, Ohio and earned a PhD in Economics from the Ohio State University in 2003.

Webinar 2: The Journey Forward”

Keynote Speaker: Catherine Putney, speaker and economist, ITR Economics

In this session, ITR Economics- First in Forecasts Worldwide- will review short- and long-term economic forecasts and how they will directly impact the pressure sensitive tape industry. Learn how to identify business cycle phases and what this means to PSTC customers. Be prepared to discuss leading economic indicators and those to watch. ITR Economics will provide insight on inflation, interest rates, and taxes and discuss time-sensitive current events and how to expect them to affect your businesses as well as strategies for moving forward.

Speaker Bio:

Catherine specializes in applied research regarding business cycle trend analysis, growth cycle trend analysis, and the utilization of cyclical analysis at the business level. She earned a master's degree in economics from the University of New Hampshire. As a key member of ITR's Leading Indicator Team, Catherine applies her skillsets when forecasting company and market data and sharing those findings - and their business relevance - with ITR clients. Catherine and the team at ITR Economics have put their expertise to work for companies from a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, chemicals, fibers, healthcare, distribution, real estate, construction, and technology.

Webinar 3: Switchable Adhesives for Multifunctional Interfaces”

Keynote Speaker: Michael Bartlett

Michael Bartlett is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech. His research focuses on soft multifunctional materials for deformable electronics and soft robotics, adaptive materials, and ‘smart’ adhesives. He received his BSE in Materials Science and Engineering from Michigan in 2008 and Ph.D. in Polymer Science and Engineering from UMass Amherst in 2013. After obtaining his Ph.D. he worked as a Senior Research Engineer in the Corporate Research Laboratory at 3M, as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, and was an Assistant Professor at Iowa State University before joining Virginia Tech in 2020. His research has resulted in publications, patents, media coverage and awards including a DARPA Young Faculty Award and Director’s Fellowship, the Early Career Scientist Award from the Adhesion Society, a 3M Non-Tenured Faculty Award, and an Outstanding Faculty Award (student nominated).
